Deep cleaning and removal of chewing gum has been undertaken across Romford Town Centre during May.
Havering Council’s “Cleaner Havering” campaign has been launched in response to residents’ feedback that Romford Town Centre needed attention and street cleaning across the Borough needed to be addressed.
Havering is investing £400,000 to increase the frequency of street cleaning in residential streets from once every three weeks to once every two weeks.
Cllr Damian White, Leader of Havering Council, said: “Residents have told us repeatedly that they expect high quality services from the Council. That’s why the Council is investing in services like deep cleaning and extra street cleansing. This will help ensures that our roads and pavements are safe and clean.”
Further work will be undertaken during the year, including deep cleaning at Hornchurch Town Centre.
