Andrew Rosindell M.P., Member of Parliament for Romford, attended the annual Horseman’s Sunday celebration in Havering-atte-Bower on Sunday, 14th October 2012.
“Horseman’s Sunday” is an annual celebration of the horses, horsemen, and horsewomen of Havering-atte-Bower and this event celebrates the horse riding tradition of the village, our countryside, and the important part that horses play in our national life.
The day began with a special service of thanksgiving for the horse which was held on the Village Green outside the St John The Evangelist Church.
During the service, Andrew Rosindell M.P. recited the poem “The Ode To The Horse”.
At the conclusion of the service, Andrew Rosindell M.P. presented each horse and rider with a commemorative Horseman’s Sunday Rosette. A community barbeque was held for the local community.
Andrew Rosindell M.P. said:
“It was a wonderful day on the Village Green and great to see so many of our horses and riders from in and around Havering-atte-Bower!
Special congratulations go to the Havering-atte-Bower Conservation Society, who year in and year out work so hard to put on what is a wonderful community event.
From the battlefield to the race track and from farming to policing, the horse has played a major role in the history of our nation, and will continue to be at the heart of our national life well into the future."
